Installation Instructions

 

*** Since all of the data contained in the setup steps below is contained in two handy text files (config.txt and enabledfields.txt), this entire process can be automated once the desired configuration is completed.

Download/Install MSI

  1. Navigate to http://www.sfbmon.com/download,
  2. Select SfBMonitor-*ver*.msi and Run or Download/Save locally then Launch,
  3. Resulting installation should include:
  • a Notification Area App,
  • an App in All Apps called SfB Monitor,
  • two links in your Start Menu Shortcuts folder (this ensures that when you reboot, the Notification Area App will automatically run.
  1. After install, Notification Area App should be running.  You can confirm by checking for this icon: If it is missing, launch SfB Monitor from your All Apps menu.

Data Capture

***This requires you to tell SfB Monitor where your UCCAPI log file is located.  If you select the “Browse” button in the DataCapture section, it is possible that you will not be able to navigate to your AppData folder since it is hidden.  The next several steps will help you complete the DataCapture section successfully.

  1. In your Skype for Business client, select Tools>Options and confirm that your “Logging in Skype for Business” option is set to Light or Full.If not, please set to at least Light.
  2. Select the SfB Monitor Notification Area App and select Config,
  3. At the top of the Config menu is the DataCapture section,
  4. Open Windows File Explorer and navigate to your Tracing folder.It should look something like this: “C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Lync\Tracing”,
  5. Copy the entire string and paste into the Log File Directory field in SfB Monitor Config,
  6. At Enable Capture, select the “Yes” radio button,
  7. Select Submit in the DataCapture section,
  8. This is what it should look like when complete.

Local Monitor

*** Please see the FAQ section for guidance on some key fields to monitor.  Additionally, there are sample EnabledFields.txt files available for download at http://www.sfbmon.com/download.

  1. In the Local Monitor section in SfB Monitor Config, click on the Select Fields button
  2. Select the fields in the Select Fields panel you wish to show on the SfB Monitor panel.
  3. When finished, select the Close button at the bottom of the Select Fields panel.
  4. In the Local Monitor section of the Config panel, select the Enable Monitor radio button to “Yes”,
  5. Optionally, set the Always on Top button to “Yes”.
  6. Select Submit to save the selections.

Real Time XML

***This step requires access to your Office 2016 root folder where the Lync.exe file is located.  Depending on UAC and your folder security, you may run into difficulty using the tool in the SfB Monitor Config panel.  Manually creating and copying the file specified below will be the alternative solution in this case. 

Plan A

  1. Open SfB Monitor Config panel,
  2. Click the Browse button and navigate to the directory where your Lync.exe is located.An example is “C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Root\Office16”,
  3. Select the “Yes” radio button next to QoS Enabled,
  4. At QoS Seconds, enter the number “1” (or whatever delay you wish.I recommend 1 second,
  5. Select the Update button.

Plan B

  1. Open SfB Monitor Config panel,
  2. Click the Browse to a temporary directory on your PC.An example is “C:\temp”,
  3. Select the “Yes” radio button next to QoS Enabled,
  4. At QoS Seconds, enter the number “1” (or whatever delay you wish.I recommend 1 second,
  5. Select the Update button.
  6. Navigate to the directory where you created the file. Ex: C:\temp,
  7. Locate a file named “ocapi_test_config.xml”,
  8. Manually copy the file to the directory where your Lync.exe is located.An example is “C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Root\Office16”,
  9. Accept any security warnings that require you to confirm copying to this directory.

Event Hub

  1. Open SfB Monitor Config panel,
  2. Enter Event Hub connection settings,
  3. Select the Yes button at Enable Event Hub,
  4. Select the Submit button.
